CHRIS DOWNING - CLIENT SERVICES ASSOCIATE

Growing up, I saw firsthand how much effort goes into managing household finances and the stress that money can place on a family. That experience shaped my understanding of how closely finances are tied to wellbeing, relationships, and peace of mind.

I didn’t originally plan on becoming a financial planner. I thought my path might lead to becoming an investment banker or an economist, until a financial planning unit during my second year of study sparked a genuine interest. It brought together two things I care deeply about: money and, more importantly, helping people in a way that aligns with my strengths.

Helping others has always been important to me. I spent five years working as a checkout operator at a supermarket, where I enjoyed turning what most would call a chore into a more positive experience. More than that, it was about building rapport with regular customers who enjoyed having a chat — something that means a lot to me. Along the way, I also developed strong saving habits and a long-term approach to managing my own finances.

With today’s rising interest rates, housing pressures, and economic uncertainty, money can be a major source of stress. I understand this personally, and I believe that having a plan can make a real difference.

That’s why I’m pursuing a career in financial planning: to help reduce financial stress through greater understanding, support clients along the way, and help them achieve their goals — including goals they may not have even thought of yet.
